Italian Colomba is a panettone style cake (it’s very similar, yet slightly different, but we remain unable to quite describe how!) traditionally enjoyed in Italy over the Easter weekend.
Like for panettone, it is served at the end of the meal with coffee (or sometimes vinsanto – sweet white wine) and just makes for a very convivial moment.
Our Colomba Cakes are prepared for us by Gilber, the same artisanal producer (based in Turin) who prepare our panettone. Anyone who has tried these will know that this is a good thing!
Good Food Network Tasting Notes! We take our job seriously and had to try one! “A pleasant yeasty and sweet aroma when we unwrapped it, moist texture, great flavour, the small pieces of candied oranges and icing sugar are a delight, just delicious!” We are philistines (or perhaps it is just our French background!) but we find a little salted butter on top works a treat! Perfect to enjoy with afternoon tea or coffee.
Colomba Easter Cakes make beautiful gourmet gifts and are something a little different! The outside is wrapped in gift wrap and a ribbon – and the inside (see photo) is in the shape of a dove (more or less!).

Colomba Cake Storage:
You can store and enjoy your Italian Colomba cake in a cupboard until the best before date of 01/06/2023. Once open, you can store it in a cupboard, but best consume it within the week and make sure you wrap it up well in a plastic bag (or even two) to make sure if keeps moist!
