A real delicacy – hot smoked eel fillets prepared for us by the reputed Severn & Wye smokery.
The texture of the eel is unctuous (melts in the mouth), the smoking just right and not too heavily smoked.
At it’s best enjoyed at room temperature with either horseradish paste (a traditional accompaniment to smoked eel) or a few drops of lemon. And perhaps some lightly toasted and finely sliced rye bread.
With regards wine pairings, a chilled Sancerre would work perfectly!
